The Aid to the Needy Disabled program (AND) has two categories:


  • Provides interim financial assistance to clients age eighteen (18) through fifty-nine (59) years of age (unless diagnosed with blindness, then age zero (0) through 59 years of age); 
  • Assistance is provided to clients who are disabled or blind but have not been approved for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).



  • Provides a supplemental payment for client's age zero (0) to 59 who are receiving SSI due to a disability or blindness, but are not receiving the full SSI grant standard.


You can apply for AND-SO at Denver Human Services if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a resident of Denver County; 
  • You were born in the United States or are a naturalized citizen or a legal alien You are a United States citizen or a legal alien; and  
  • You have been certified by a Colorado licensed doctor as being blind or disabled for at least six months and without work capacity (if applicable) 
  • Have an active application for SSI (approved, pending or appeal status)


You can apply for AND-CS at Denver Human Services if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a resident of Denver County;
  • You are a US Citizen or Legal Alien; and
  • You are receiving SSI due to a disability or blindness, but are not receiving the full SSI grant standard

Step 1: Get an Application




You can come to any of our offices, Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:00p.m., and pick up an application:

We can send an application to you by mail or fax – please call us at 720-944-3666 to have one sent to you.

If you need more information regarding the application process or need any special accommodations or need a sign language or other language interpreter, please ask our lobby staff at one of our offices or call us at 720-944-3666.

Step 2: Complete the application

Please fill out as much of the application as you can. At a minimum we will need to have your name, home street address, and signature on the application to begin the process. If you need help or don't understand a question, a staff member at one of our offices can help you complete your application or you can call us at 720-944-3666.

You may use the Assistance Program Application to also apply for Food Assistance, TANF (Kinship), Medical Assistance, Child Care and/or other assistance programs; mark any of the benefits for which you wish to apply on the list on page 1 of the application.

Step 3: Return the application to one of our offices

You can return the application to any of the offices listed above. As long as you provide your name, home street address,  and a signature, you can turn in the form to begin the process, but providing as much information as possible could help complete the process faster.

The Aid to the Needy and Disabled program requires an in person interview before eligibility can be determined. Interviews are conducted Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m-3:30 p.m. If we are not able to interview you the same day you turn in your application, an appointment will be scheduled for a future date and time.
