Be a Trainer

Thank you for your interest in applying for approval on the Denver Preferred Training Provider list!

The Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act of 2014 (WIOA) requires each local Workforce Development Board and each state to identify training providers whose performance qualifies them to receive WIOA funds to train adults and dislocated workers.

Here in Colorado, once training providers and their programs are deemed eligible, they are placed on a statewide Eligible Training Provider List. This makes these training entities eligible to receive Individual Training Account vouchers--the tuition assistance that is provided to jobseekers to allow them to better prepare themselves for tomorrow's high demand, higher wage careers.

Here in Denver County, Denver Workforce Services has implemented a subset of the state's list to better target our investment in credentials that will help make our residents even more competitive in the marketplace. Denver also focuses its training resources on a defined set of demand-driven industries and career pathways.

In order to receive WIOA tuition assistance funding from Denver, you must be approved on both the Colorado list as well as Denver's list. Being approved on the statewide list does not automatically qualify you for Denver's preferred list. You may opt to only be approved on the statewide list, but know that by doing so, you will not be eligible for funding from Denver County.

Eligible providers of training programs may include post-secondary educational institutions; entities that deliver programs under the National Apprenticeship Act; and a range of other public, private or nonprofit educational or skill providers, including faith-based providers.

A training program is defined as one or more courses or classes, or a structured regimen, which upon successful completion leads to (1) a recognized post-secondary credential, or a secondary school diploma or its equivalent; (2) employment, or (3) measurable skill gains toward such a credential or employment.

Before you can be approved for either Colorado's statewide list or Denver's preferred list, you must be authorized to operate in Colorado by the appropriate oversight agency under state law. Here are some links based on providers' industries and the various accreditations that are required for each:

Special note for Nursing Programs: In addition to your educational institution being authorized to operate in Colorado by the appropriate deivision of the Department of Higher Education, your nursing program also needs to be approved by the Colorado Board of Nursing. The list of approved nursing education programs in Colorado can be found at:

Once you can confirm that you have met the requirements to operate in Colorado as noted above, you should submit your application for Colorado Eligible Training Provider status at ColoradoETPL.org.
