Tech is hot and firms are hiring: Denver convenes IT talent event + job fair

Taking nothing for granted and with an eye on the future, the Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) is focusing on strengthening the area’s already robust job market for information technology and software with an industry forum and job fair on Thursday, October 30.

The free event, “Denver’s Tech Talent: Meeting Tomorrow’s Needs,” will be held at the ICOSA Media offices at 4100 Jackson St. with registration and networking beginning at 8 a.m.

A morning session from 9-11 a.m. will include several of OED’s Denver “Gazelle” employers—honored for their rapid job growth—exploring what critical skills they are seeking in their hiring now and in the months ahead. A 2014 Gazelle executive, NIMBL co-founder Yosh Eisbart, will serve on a panel of employers facilitated by Wendy Nkomo from the Colorado Technology Association.

The day will then shift to a tech job fair along with one-on-one resume critiques from OED’s Workforce Development employment specialists. Veterans-only access to the job fair will be available from Noon-12:30 p.m., with the public job fair from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

In addition to NIMBL, participating employers in the job fair will include ITriage, NexusTek, Time Warner Cable, Live Consulting, Skybridge Infotech and Raymond James Financial, Inc.

“Denver’s IT workforce of more than 17,000 is expected to expand to nearly 20,000 within the next two years, and even the most conservative estimates place average earnings per job at $114,000,” said OED Workforce Development Director Denise Bryant. “Along with healthcare and advanced manufacturing, technology is a critical industry of focus for us. Our goal is to identify the rapidly evolving skills that jobseekers need, improve our workforce training to match marketplace demands, and continue to attract the top talent to Denver.”
