In-Person Service Suspensions


In-Person Requirements Temporarily Suspended for Marriage Licenses

In accordance with Governor Polis’ Executive Order D-2020-014, the Denver Clerk and Recorder is temporarily issuing marriage licenses through application by mail and using our dropbox until April 25, 2020, unless Executive Order D-2020-014 is extended further.

The Office of the Clerk and Recorder has temporarily suspended in-person services due to health and safety concerns about the COVID-19 virus. 

Many of our office’s services are still available through other means.

Marriage Licenses and Document Recording

Hard copy documents that need to be recorded may be deposited in the dropbox located near the Court Street entrance of the Webb Building.

Submit your hard copy documents with a check made out to the Manager of Finance for any applicable recording fees. Recording fee information is available on our Forms and Fees website.

Documents received via email cannot be recorded.

Yes. Governor Polis issued an executive order on March 26, 2020, temporarily suspending in-person requirements for the issuance of new marriage licenses. To obtain a new marriage license by mail or dropbox, you will need to complete the following:

  • A marriage license application and checklist
  • Applicable documentation if needed:
    • Divorce decree, if either party finalized a divorce in the last 30 days
    • Social Security Affidavit for any party who lacks a Social Security number
    • Judicial order if either party is age 16 or 17
  •  $30 check payment made out to Manager of Finance. Call our office at 720-913-4820 for instructions to submit payment with a credit or debit card.

Submit these documents and payment to our office via US Postal service or package delivery service (FedEx, UPS, etc.) to our mailing address:

Or deposit your packet in our dropbox, located near the Court Place entrance of the Wellington E. Webb Building.

Note: marriage license applications require a wet signature and cannot be accepted via email or fax.

The executive order remains in effect until April 25, 2020, unless the executive order is extended further.

Yes. Signed and completed marriage licenses will be accepted at the dropbox located near the Court Street entrance of the Webb Building during the suspension. Your original copy will be returned to you via the US Postal Service.

Public Trustee and Foreclosure processes

Yes.
  • Electronic filings can be made through Simplifile or CSC. Only Qualified Holders may file electronically.
  • Releases may also be sent for filing via US Postal Service, FedEx, or UPS.
  • In-person releases will not be accepted at our counters until after the suspension has been lifted.
  • Full release packets in hard copy may be placed in the dropbox located near the Webb Building's Court Street entrance. These packets will be retrieved by our staff within four hours of receipt during city business hours.

Check your documents carefully to ensure you are submitting a full release packet.

  • For Qualified Holders, new foreclosure actions can be filed electronically via email to foreclosures@denvergov.org.
  • Law firms with existing accounts to commence foreclosure proceedings can still file those documents via their approved foreclosure portal.
  • New foreclosures may also be filed via US Postal Service, FedEx, or UPS.
  • Couriered or other hand-delivered foreclosure filings cannot be accepted at our counters until in-person services are restored.
  • Hard copy foreclosure packets may be deposited in the dropbox located near the Webb Building's Court Street entrance. Packets will be retrieved by our staff within four hours of receipt during city business hours.

Intents to cure may be filed via US Postal Service, FedEx, UPS, or via email to foreclosures@denvergov.org. All intents to cure submitted during the suspension must be notarized.

Hard copy intents to cure may be placed in the dropbox located near the Webb Building's Court Street entrance and will be retrieved by our staff within four hours of receipt during city business hours.

Cure payments may be made to our office via wire transfer. Instructions for making payment via wire transfer can be found on our website.

Our office will accept certified funds submitted via the dropbox. Your certified payment must be submitted with the payment’s intended purpose and your foreclosure file information on the outside of the envelope. Funds submitted using the dropbox will be retrieved by our staff within four hours of receipt during city business hours.

DO NOT SUBMIT CASH INTO THE DROPBOX.  WE CANNOT ACCEPT CASH PAYMENTS VIA THE DROPBOX DURING THIS CLOSURE FOR PUBLIC TRUSTEE.

Yes. Sale deposits and final payments may be made via wire transfer. Instructions for making payment via wire transfer can be obtained through our auction site, denver.realforeclose.com.

Our office will accept certified funds submitted in the dropbox, located near the Webb Building's Court Street entrance.

Your certified payment must be submitted with the payment’s intended purpose, your name or company name, and your bidder number on the outside of the envelope.

Payments received via dropbox will be retrieved by our staff within four hours of receipt during city business hours.

DO NOT SUBMIT CASH IN THE DROPBOX. WE CANNOT ACCEPT CASH PAYMENTS VIA THE DROPBOX DURING THIS CLOSURE FOR PUBLIC TRUSTEE.

Intents to Redeem may be delivered via FedEx, UPS, or by US Postal Service.

Qualified Holders may file electronically through a combination of email and wire transfer.

The full intent to redeem with all backup documentation and the payment must be received by our office prior to the deadline.

Intents to Redeem may be accepted at our dropbox, located near the Webb Building's Court Street entrance. Document submitted via dropbox will be retrieved by our staff within four hours of receipt during city business hours.

Be sure to deposit the entire Intent to Redeem package, including the filing fee, in a single envelope. Indicate the intended purpose of the funds, and your foreclosure file information, on the outside of the envelope. 

Note:  The dropbox slot is small.  Consider sending Intents to Redeem via another method.

Our office will accept certified funds for redemption payments via the dropbox.

Your certified payment must be submitted with the payment’s intended purpose and your foreclosure file information on the outside of the envelope. Payments received via dropbox will be retrieved by our staff within four hours of receipt during city business hours.

To ensure proper processing for documents submitted via dropbox, be sure to:

  • Submit all documents in an envelope with any applicable fees 
  • Clearly write the purpose of the documents and payments, as well as identifying information (name, company name bidder number, foreclosure file number, as appropriate) on the outside of the envelope.
