8,406 Leaps of Love in 2017

Denver Marriages Rise 5 Percent

DENVER – The Denver Clerk and Recorder’s Office helped more than 8,400 couples get down the aisle in 2017. That’s a 5 percent increase from 2016 which was its own record-setting year.

“As Denver keeps growing, more people are finding love here,” Clerk Debra Johnson said. “The city is growing about 2 percent a year; our marriages are more than double that growth rate.

“The Summer months were big for us again in 2017, especially in August when 985 couples got their licenses,” she added. August is traditionally the busiest month for marriages in Denver.

To get down the aisle even faster, couples can fill out their application online and can even schedule an appointment to pick up their license.

On Valentine’s Day, Clerk Johnson will again host her annual celebration. Judges and clergy will perform free marriage ceremonies for couples. Food and beverages will be available for the couples. Drawings will be held for gifts from local businesses, elected officials and other city agencies. Marriage licenses are $30.
