Youth at Arts Street were asked to envision the world they would like to see and they created artwork filled with hope, love, peace, forgiveness and grace. They pictured a city unified, not divided. A Denver Healing As One.
Those visions are going up on five billboards across the city to inspire all of us to see the possibility with the optimism of youth.
“In 2014, when students protested the injustice especially young people of color face in this country, they inspired all of us to ask, ‘What can I do to foster change?' In addition to actions throughout the city, those conversations have led to the funding of community mini-grants, to a partnership with churches to make safe spaces available for healing discussions that follow tragedies, and to the gathering of thousands for Denver Talks. While artwork on billboards isn’t the answer to everything that ails our society, the conversations and the collaboration that led to inspiring our young people to envision a future filled with peace and hope is a great way to kick off 2018.” -Mayor Michael B. Hancock
Students at Arts Street, which uses creativity to help youth break the cycle of poverty, worked through the fall to offer up their billboard ideas. A team of partners including Arts Street, the Office of Community Affairs, the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, and Sander Marketing selected the work that will be displayed across the city.
