As the weekend approaches, a reminder that most Denver parks remain open for use to support the health and well-being of residents but with some new guidelines and restrictions. Denver Parks & Recreation has issued a temporary directive to prohibit the possession and consumption of beer, wine, and champagne in parks and other outdoor public spaces the agency manages. The temporary directive goes into effect on Friday, April 24 through July 23, 2020. It is intended to support and promote the stay at home and social distancing directives and ensure the safety of outdoor public spaces during the emergency. Other restrictions, including the prohibition of the possession and consumption of spirituous liquor or hard liquor, remain in place under the city’s rules for alcohol in parks and other public spaces.

Mayor Michael B. Hancock today announced several updates to Denver’s response to COVID-19, underscoring the need to continue to stay at home and enjoy the outdoors responsibly. The Mayor and the Emergency Operations Center have begun recovery planning efforts, but physical distancing remains the most effective tool currently to limit the spread of the virus.

From hand sewn face coverings to medical gowns, Denver residents and businesses have donated thousands of items of personal protective equipment (PPE) to support essential workers. In addition to the community donations, Denver is also receiving shipments of much needed PPE throughout the week. The shipments include critical supplies of surgical and N-95 masks, face shields and gloves.

The City and County of Denver is expanding its efforts in providing greater physical distancing for people experiencing homelessness. Denver and area shelter providers are preparing to open an auxiliary shelter for women experiencing homelessness at the Denver Coliseum, scheduled to open later this week through the duration of the COVID-19 emergency.

Mayor Michael B. Hancock is taking additional measures to provide property tax relief to business and residential property owners. Governor Jared Polis’ Executive Order #D 2020 031 authorizes county treasurers to extend the waiver of interest on late payment of property taxes through April 30, 2020. The action also allows property owners who had previously chosen to pay property taxes all at once to pay in installments.

Mayor Michael B. Hancock announced today that the 2020 Personal Property Declaration filing deadline will be extended from April 15, 2020 to June 15, 2020, as allowed by Governor Polis’ Executive Order (XO) #D 2020 022.
