Mayor Hancock Designates Happy Haynes as Deputy Mayor

DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock has designated Happy Haynes, Executive Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, as Deputy Mayor.

Haynes has served as Executive Director of Parks and Recreation for the City and County of Denver since 2015, and previously served as Deputy Mayor for 2017. Murphy Robinson, who had been serving as Deputy Mayor since Jan. 1, has transitioned from his role as Executive Director of General Services following his appointment by Mayor Hancock to the Mayor’s Office as Chief Operating Officer for the city. General Services deputy director Brandon Gainey will be the acting executive director for the department.

The Deputy Mayor exercises the duties and responsibilities of the Office of Mayor whenever the mayor is unable, for any cause, to perform the duties of the office. Per § 2.1.2 of the Denver Charter, the mayor shall designate a member of the cabinet as Deputy Mayor, with the designation being valid for one year.

Haynes’ appointment as Deputy Mayor took effect on Aug. 12, 2019.
