Mayor Hancock Statement on the State of the Union Address

DENVER – Mayor Hancock issued the following statement in response to the President’s disappointing State of the Union Address tonight:

“The American people deserve investment in our country’s crumbling infrastructure to improve our communities and create good paying jobs. We heard only a token mention of it tonight. The American people deserve real solutions and focus on reversing decades of wage stagnation so their work is justly compensated. We heard the focus would be on more disastrous trade wars. The American people deserve real actions to address the very real effects of climate change. We heard no mention of it tonight. The American people deserve continued progress on criminal justice reform. We heard a President claiming credit for reforms that would have and should have passed long ago. The American people deserve an immigration policy that honors people as human beings. We heard more of the same tired, fictitious and rejected arguments that stoke fear and prejudice to sell his desire for a medieval wall.

“This President promised unity. The American people deserve unity, but that’s not what we heard tonight.”
