The Compact’s Vision

Launched in October 2011 by Mayor Hancock, the Denver Education Compact (The Compact) is a collaboration between 20+ key Denver institutions to create a robust educational continuum for Denver’s youth, from cradle to career − where all students enter kindergarten prepared, graduate high school prepared, complete a postsecondary pathway and obtain a job. Part of this vision is that the City and County of Denver will attain and retain its educated workforce.

How Do We Get There?

The Compact has chosen specific strategies to achieve its goals.

  • GOAL 1: 90% of third-grade students will be reading at grade level by 2017.
The Compact has chosen to focus on improving the critical transition between preschool and kindergarten, with a special emphasis on teacher preparation, information exchange, and parental engagement. The Compact plans to focus its efforts in Southwest Denver.
  • GOAL 2: To increase the number of high school students whocomplete a post-secondary pathway and obtain a job.
The Compact has chosen to focus on developing career pathways for students that focus on easing the transitions between educational systems and enable students to obtain a job with a living wage.
