Denver Motor Vehicle Will Reopen for In-Person Services June 29, 2020
All Denver Motor Vehicle locations will re-open for in-person transactions on Monday, June 29, 2020.
Customers will notice physical and process changes implemented to protect both customers and staff from potential COVID-19 exposure including:
Lobby areas must remain at a safe capacity. Once clients check-in at the facility, DMV staff will use a text messaging system to alert clients when it is their time to enter the building. Please bring a cell phone or mobile device to enable text notifications.
Additionally, dropboxes have been installed at all DMV branch locations. Clients with completed paperwork who are paying by check can place their information into the dropbox and staff will process and send the updated registration within 3-4 business days.
You may continue to use online, mail, and phone options for renewals, new registrations, disability placards, and other transactions. Visit mydmv.colorado.gov.
The City is providing a grace period for expired registrations through July 31, 2020. Denver Police Department and Denver Right of Way Enforcement will not issue citations for expired tags during this time.
There are three ways to renew your registration/plates without having to visit a Denver Motor Vehicle office. The City & County of Denver has made the process even better by removing all convenience fees for credit card and electronic check transactions. In other words, it will not cost you anything extra to use one of the renewal methods mentioned on the back of the newly designed Renewal Mailer:
Please visit https://www.denvergov.org/pocketgov/#/dmv to renew online. Not all plate types will qualify and the ability to renew online depends on whether you need proof of insurance or an emissions test. If you are unable to renew online please call 311 because you may still be able take advantage of the other methods we offer.
Simply call 311 to see if you are eligible to renew by phone. Please have your registration information and your credit card or checking account information available.
You can also use the newly designed Renewal Mailer to renew by mail. The new renewal notice includes an envelope for your convenience and the postage is paid. No more searching for an envelope and a stamp to send off your renewal!
