A couple of changes will appear on employee W-2 documents for the 2017 tax year:
- Box 12 is used to list codes for contributions to plans like Group Term Life Insurance, 457b (TIAA), and/or health savings accounts. Due to system constraints, this field can only accommodate four codes. Employees with more than four contribution types will receive a second W-2 with the information for those contributions. Both pages will arrive in the mail for employees receiving paper W-2s, or as a second page of the PDF for those receiving electronic W-2s.
- Box 14 contains the Denver Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT) and is tagged with the code DNVR. In previous years, OPT appeared in Box 19 of the W-2 form.
