2019 Annual Report

Today, the Office of the Independent Monitor (“OIM”) released its 2019 Annual Report to the public. The OIM is charged with monitoring the disciplinary systems in the Denver Police and Denver Sheriff Departments, making policy recommendations to those departments, and conducting outreach to communities throughout Denver. By ordinance, the OIM reports to the public about the work of the OIM and the complaints, investigations, and discipline of sworn police and sheriff personnel. The OIM is led by Independent Monitor Nicholas E. Mitchell and advised by the Citizen Oversight Board.

2019 Semiannual Report

Today, the Office of the Independent Monitor (“OIM”) released its 2019 Semiannual Report. Established in 2005, the OIM provides independent civilian oversight of the Denver Police and Sheriff Departments. The OIM is led by Independent Monitor Nicholas E. Mitchell and advised by the Citizen Oversight Board.

Independent Monitor Provides Testimony to New York City Charter Revision Commission

Today, Denver’s Independent Monitor, Nicholas E. Mitchell, will provide testimony to the New York City Charter Revision Commission (“NYC Commission”) in New York City Hall. The NYC Commission has been tasked by the New York City Council with reviewing the entire Charter of the City of New York, holding hearings in all five boroughs to solicit public input, and issuing a report with findings and recommendations for revising the Charter.

Denver City Council Votes to Amend OIM and COB Ordinances

Today, the Denver City Council voted unanimously (with three members absent) in favor of bill 19-0029, which amends several sections of the Denver Revised Municipal Code (“DRMC”) related to the Office of the Independent Monitor (“OIM”) and Citizen Oversight Board (“COB”).
