Denver's Light the Lights Event

DPD to Accept Donations of Warmth

DENVER – Wednesday, November 27, 2019 – The City and County of Denver and 9NEWS (KUSA) present Light the Lights -- the annual lighting of Denver's City and County Building and winter festival in Civic Center Park on Friday, November 29, 2019, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The Denver Police Department is partaking in this event and will unveil the winter version of the Copsicle Cruiser – the Hot Cocoa Cruiser! Thanks to donations from Deep Rock Water, Alpine Bank and Safeway, the newly outfitted Hot Cocoa Cruiser will distribute free hot chocolate to Light the Lights event goers.

Additionally, DPD is asking for those attending to “help stuff the Bearcat” by bringing donations of new hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens. These items will be donated to Mayor Michael B. Hancock’s annual Giving Tree.

There will be free and other family fun activities at the Light the Lights event, such as:

  • a crafts corner and silly selfie booth hosted by the Denver Animal Shelter
  • a Bookmobile (heated!) and story time tent presented by the Denver Public Library
  • surprise activities with the Denver Police Department and Denver Fire Department
  • more crafts and photo opportunities with Elsa and the Grinch hosted by Denver Parks and Recreation
  • a mural painting project coordinated by Denver's Census 2020 initiative
