The Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) is a multi-week program conducted up to ten times a year, with an average of 25-35 attendees. It is designed to familiarize Citizens with the “how/what/why” of Police procedures, and provide an opportunity to interact and ask Officers questions. The CPA is no longer held exclusively at the Police Academy, but moves around the Police District Stations, and other sites, including the Denver Police Academy.
The Citizen's Academies do their best to reflect current themes and topics, and encourage discussion of how the Police operate in general.
Participants attend lectures and discussions on subjects such as:
Officers and other experts assist with lectures and demonstrations. Upon completion of the program participants receive a certificate, and are able to participate in (2)“ride-alongs” on patrol shifts, and invited to consider joining the Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) unit.
