The Denver Police Community Police Academy is a multi-session program conducted multiple times a year, with an average of 25-35 attendees. It is designed to familiarize community members with the “how/what/why” of Police procedures, and provide an opportunity to interact with officers and ask questions.
Due to the in-depth nature of the training, the Community Academy is hosted at the Denver Police Academy; 2155 North Akron Road.
The academies do their best to reflect current trends, themes and topics, and encourage discussions in regard to how Police operate in general.
Participants will attend lectures and discussions on subjects such as:
Officers and other experts assist with lectures and demonstrations. Upon completion of the program participants will receive a certificate, and are then able to participate in two (2) “ride-alongs” on patrol shifts, and invited to consider joining the Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) unit.
You must register in advance by submitting an application, and space is limited, so please apply early.
Participants must be over 18 years of age, or 15 years of age, with parental consent, and must pass a basic background check.
