Denver Artists to Further Enhance the Pedestrian Experience on Santa Fe Drive

DENVER – Colorful, unique street murals will soon begin to take shape along Santa Fe Drive to entice and enhance feelings of comfort for people who walk the corridor, home to the Santa Fe Art District. Denver’s Department of Transportation & Infrastructure (DOTI) recently completed safety and traffic calming improvements from 6th to Colfax Avenues, which included narrowing the roadway and shortening crossing distances for people on foot, to enhance safety for all users and pedestrians in particular. Now, local artists will begin work to make the pedestrian space along this stretch more inviting and enhance the uniqueness of the corridor.

Jennifer Chaparro, Alexi High, and Bimmer Torres will each create their own unique street murals within new placemaking buffers DOTI carved out for pedestrians between on-street parking spaces and the existing sidewalk, which will provide people with more space and comfort to walk. The media is invited to get b-roll and photos of the artists painting their street murals. (Examples of their work are also attached.)
