Denver Completes Record-Breaking Street Paving Season

It’s the most *lane miles* Denver has ever paved in a single year…519 to be exact! With an additional $15 million from the Elevate Denver Bond Program, the city’s paving program grew by 20%, resulting in improvements to an additional 89 lane miles of street, or about 365 blocks, which is also 40 blocks more than originally planned at the start of the season!

Below is the breakdown of streets that were improved through the 2019 street paving program:

  • Local Streets: 262 lane miles
  • Main Streets: 257 lane miles
  • Total: 519 lane miles

Streets paved with Elevate Denver bond money received roughly 71,000 tons of fresh asphalt to provide a smoother ride! Over the next several years, the Elevate Denver Bond Program will dedicate another $30M to paving the city’s streets, with $10M of that already allocated to the 2020 paving program.

In addition to bond funding, the street paving program is in its seventh year of receiving funding from 2012’s voter-approved Measure 2A, which provides an extra $4.5 million toward the paving program annually. So, with $41.5 million total for street resurfacing this year, Denver improved about 9% of the city’s 5,700 lane miles of streets!
