Project Funding

  • South Broadway Reconstruction: Kentucky to South of Tennessee (Project 1) TIP-ID: 2012-035
    CCD was granted $2.69M from the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) through the 2012-2017 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Along with an equal match of local CCD funds, a total of $5.38M is now available to advance final design, acquire right-of-way and construct Broadway from Kentucky to just south of Tennessee.
  • South Broadway Reconstruction: Arizona to South of Tennessee & East Mississippi Reconstruction: Consolidated Mainline Railway to Lincoln (Project 2)

    CCD is using local funds to conduct final design. Additional funding is being pursued for the acquisition of ROW and Easements, and the construction of the project.

Final Design

The City and County of Denver (CCD) has completed the design for Project 1 and 2 as described below:

  • Project 1 – South Broadway Reconstruction: Kentucky to south of Tennessee 
  • Project 2 – South Broadway Reconstruction: South of Tennessee to Arizona & East Mississippi Reconstruction: Consolidated Mainline Railway to Sherman

Project Schedule

  • Through Spring of 2015: Right of Way Acquisition
  • Fall 2015: Project Advertisement
  • Early 2016: Construction to Begin

Demolition of the former Gates Rubber Plant buildings is anticipated to be completed by the property owner by year’s end. Demolition of the existing buildings on the east side of Broadway between Arizona and Kentucky avenues is anticipated to begin in late 2014, or early 2015.

Project Activity Summaries

Final design activities for the reconstruction of Broadway between Kentucky and Arizona will begin in the spring of 2012
• Finalize roadway modeling and final grading 
• Complete retaining wall design for wall located on the north side of Mississippi west of Broadway 
• Complete storm drainage system design 
• Complete design of utility relocations for multiple utilities within the project limits 
• Complete landscape, streetscape and lighting design 
• Finalize right-of-way plans and begin right of way acquisition

  • Completed the 30% Design Plans
  • Coordinated the 30% Design with planned development at 1050 S. Broadway

  • Held a Public Open House on May 5, 2011
  • Held 30% Design Review for project design to date with various CCD departments, RTD and CDOT
  • Updated and completed 30% design, plans and reports based on 30% Design Review Comments.

Project Activities:

  • Continued roadway design refinement
  • Continued coordination with adjacent City projects and partners including RTD, Denver Design District, Lionstone and Cherokee Denver West
  • Water quality and drainage design refinement

Project Activities:

  • Working to meet and incorporate sustainability goals into project engineering design. - Ongoing
  • Investigating modifications/improvements to the planned intersection configurations along Broadway at Kentucky Avenue, Tennessee Avenue and the Southbound I-25 off-ramp, to include an additional dedicated turn lane from South Broadway to Southbound I-25, and enhanced pedestrian movements and safety across and along Broadway. - Ongoing
  • Investigating modifications/improvements to the multi-use trail system to facilitate multi-modal connections and safe access to RTD’s I-25 Broadway Station. – Ongoing
  • Refining horizontal and vertical roadway alignments. - Ongoing
  • Conducting bridge and wall structure type analysis and selection in the Southbound I-25 on-ramp area. - Ongoing
  • Studying proposed locations for regional water quality ponds and conducting initial sizing of ponds to serve the project area and neighborhoods to the east. – Ongoing and Under Review
  • Evaluating conceptual streetscape alternatives (to include trees and pedestrian lights). – Ongoing and Under Review
  • Evaluating street and pedestrian lighting alternatives. – Ongoing and Under Review
