Roughly 600,000 tons of paper beverage cups are used each year in the United States, and far too much of this valuable material ends up in landfills. Denver Public Works and members of Denver City Council have announced that Denver is now one of the leading cities in the country to add paper cups to its recycling program, thanks to a partnership with the Foodservice Packaging Institute and Alpine Waste & Recycling. As a result, all Denver households with a purple cart can now include coffee and soda paper cups on their recycling list!

With the upcoming holiday season, America Recycles Day on November 15 is the perfect day for people to start thinking about reducing their waste by taking advantage of Denver’s seasonal recycling and composting programs.

Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to take that Jack-O’-Lantern off the porch! Give it a second life and take it to a Denver LeafDrop site, so it can be composted. Beginning this Saturday, six additional LeafDrop locations will open on the weekends through Sunday, November 18. Denver residents can drop-off raked leaves and now pumpkins, which will be turned into a high-quality compost for residents to purchase at a discounted price in May.

Solid Waste Management is a section of Denver Public Works Operations Division. Solid Waste Management is responsible for providing weekly trash collection services, residential recycling and large item collection services. In addition to waste management services, Solid Waste Management is also responsible for providing graffiti abatement services for both public and private property as part of the Denver Partners Against Graffiti program, and is home to Keep Denver Beautiful, a Keep America Beautiful affiliate program.
