More Pedestrian Safety Improvements on East Colfax

DOTI has installed a new safety treatment at 28 intersections along East Colfax Avenue from Grant Street to Yosemite Street, known as a Leading Pedestrian Interval, or LPI.  The LPI treatment gives people who push the pedestrian button to cross Colfax Avenue a “head start” to cross the street and an opportunity to establish themselves in the intersection before cars get the green light to make left and right turns.  The LPI increases the visibility of pedestrians in the intersection and helps minimize conflicts between people driving and walking. DOTI also upgraded 14 intersections along East Colfax Avenue this year with low-cost, high-impact treatments to calm traffic and reduce conflicts between people driving and walking.  East Colfax is on the city’s high injury network, where most of the city’s fatal and serious injury crashes are occurring.
