Denver Public works will be installing a new sanitary sewer line in the Golden Triangle neighborhood. This project will add capacity to the sewer system in the area and in particular relieve the existing overtaxed 12" sanitary sewer in the alley north of W. 12th Avenue between Bannock and Cherokee Streets.
The new pipe will intercept sanitary sewer flows at this alley and direct them west in W. 12th Avenue to Delaware Street, and then north in Delaware Street to tie into an existing 18 inch sanitary sewer line at W. 13th Avenue.
Work is complete on the 13th Avenue and Delaware Street Sanitary Sewer Project! We appreciate the community's patience with the simultaneous construction on Delaware Street and 12th Avenue — by working on both streets at the same time, the project team was able to complete this project in about 4 months, ahead of the original expected 5-8 month time frame.
The Golden Triangle community now has greater sanitary sewer capacity and can better address current and future needs.
The 2009 Sanitary Sewer Master Plan identified a sanitary capacity upsizing project within Golden Triangle, referred to as the 13th & Delaware Sanitary Project. This plan took into account current and future zoning and land use to determine the needs of the neighborhood. This project is identified as a capital project as it serves the neighborhood, rather than an individual development or property.
Individual developments or properties are built into the capital planning needs via the land use plan; specific property owner needs on current development should be discussed with Denver Development Services per our standards.
Denver Public Works is installing a new sanitary sewer line in the Golden Triangle neighborhood to add capacity to the sewer system in the area and relieve the existing overtaxed 12” sanitary sewer in the alley north of W. 12th Avenue between Cherokee and Bannock Streets. The 2009 Sanitary Sewer Master Plan identified this area as needing additional sanitary capacity based on both current and future zoning and land use in the neighborhood.
Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-January 2019; however, Xcel Energy will be working in the area prior to the construction start date to relocate gas mains and services.
Installation of the new sanitary sewer line will begin at the intersection of W. 13th Avenue and Delaware Street and continue south to the intersection of Delaware Street and W. 12th Avenue before proceeding east on W. 12th Avenue to the alley between Cherokee and Bannock Streets. The project is anticipated to last approximately 7 months.
Denver Public Works anticipates that one open lane for vehicle traffic will be maintained on both Delaware Street and W 12th Avenue during the majority of project construction. While work is underway, there will be rolling lane closures on Delaware Street and W. 12th Avenue that adjust as construction progresses.
Access to some alleys, alley parking spaces, and parking lots may be temporarily affected. The construction team will work closely with area businesses and residents in advance to address access issues.
Bicycles will be re-routed to W. 11th Avenue during construction.
No sanitary sewer interruptions are anticipated during construction.
