Health & Vaccinations

According to Denver Law (PDF), rabies vaccinations are required for all Denver pets. Rabies, a disease that affects the central nervous system, has no cure and is almost always fatal. Each Saturday, Denver Animal Shelter offers a reduced cost vaccination clinic for public animals. Vaccinations provided at the clinic include rabies vaccination and the distemper/parvo combination vaccination.

Where and when can I get my pet vaccinated?

The Denver Animal Shelter reduced cost vaccination clinic is open to the public for dog and cat vaccinations during the following hours:

    Saturdays from 9:00AM - 11:00AM
    Sundays from 9:00AM - 11:00AM

Clinic is first-come, first-served. Last vaccine given at 11:00 A.M.

Clinic Cancellations or Schedule Changes: Occasionally we have to cancel or change the schedule for our Saturday vaccination clinic. When this occurs, we'll post a notice in the News and Announcements area at the top right of this page as soon as possible.

    • You do not have to be a resident of the City and County of Denver to receive a vaccination for your pet.
    • We do not vaccinate Pit Bull breeds or any dog mixed with a Pit Bull breed, even if you reside in another county.
    • Kittens and puppies under 4 months of age will only receive the distemper/parvo or feline distemper vaccination. When your pet is 4 months of age or older, you may bring it back for the rabies vaccination. You will be required to pay for the rabies vaccination when you return for vaccination.
    • Your pet will not receive a vaccination if it is sick, pregnant, or nursing.
    • Please muzzle pets that may be vicious or unpredictable toward people or other animals.
    • When you arrive, please have dogs on a leash and cats in a carrier and/or pet taxi.
    • Please bring any vaccine history you have for your pet with you to the clinic.
    • If your pet is spayed or neutered, please bring a copy of the certificate. If your pet is not spayed or neutered, be advised that Denver ordinance requires your pet to be spayed or neutered after 6 months of age.
You may pay by Cash, Visa, or MasterCard.
    • $35 - includes rabies, distemper/parvo and a (1) one year license for Denver County residents or out of county residents that use Denver dog parks.
    • $55 includes rabies, distemper/parvo and a (3) three year license for Denver County residents or out of county residents that use Denver dog parks.

Whether your dog or cat will receive a rabies vaccination that is “good” for one year or three years is determined by a few things:

    1. Animal's age and rabies vaccine history (Please bring any vaccine history you have for your pet with you to the clinic)
    2. State and municipal laws require annual vaccinations for rabies

Animals are first vaccinated for rabies between 4 and 6 months of age. They need a booster one year from that date. They are then vaccinated every three years if the veterinarian uses a vaccination that is labeled for three-years. However, please note that some veterinarians carry rabies vaccines that are labeled for only one-year duration. At DAS, we use the rabies vaccines that are labeled for three-years. If we are late for the one-year booster or the three-year booster, then the next rabies vaccine received will only be good for one year.

    • $25 - Microchips (dogs & cats). A microchip identification implant can identify your pet if you pet gets lost and loses its collar.
    • Pet Licenses are included in the vaccination clinic costs, but are also available for purchase during clinic for animals that are current on their vaccinations.
      • $15 - 1-year license
      • $40 - 3-year-license
