DOSP invests in two programs designed to support energy efficient nonprofit facilities, the Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Program and ResourceSmart for Nonprofits.
Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Program
In 2004, Energy Outreach Colorado and Xcel Energy began discussing the adverse impact of rising energy costs on nonprofits in facilities where they pay utilities costs. Out of these discussions, the Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Program was born, targeting organizations that serve low-income individuals and families. By providing energy efficiency upgrades to nonprofit facilities, the burden of energy costs is reduced and more dollars can be allocated toward programming.
The Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Program fully funds the cost of the audit and provides upgrades with no financial contribution from to the nonprofit. Participating facilities have received funding between $10,000 and $120,000 for their facilities, dependent on the size of their facility. On average, past participants are realizing a 19% utility cost reduction.
DOSP has supported the Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Program since it began managing the City of Denver’s Energy Efficiency Assistance Funds in 2006. To date, DOSP has invested over $4,200,000 in the program, helping to provide upgrades to over 135 nonprofit facilities.
Organizations that received upgrades in 2013 included: Boys and Girls Club, CLLARO, DenUM, Denver Rescue Mission, Girls Incorporated, Mental Health Center of Denver, Project WISE, Providence Network, Ronald McDonald House and The Empowerment Program.
Decisions regarding nonprofits selected to participate in the program are made by Energy Outreach Colorado. For more information about NEEP or to apply, please visit Energy Outreach Colorado’s website at www.energyoutreach.org or contact Hilary Taylor at email@example.com or 303-226-5060.
